Job descriptions

A maintenance person responds to requests for minor repairs to the inside or outside of the building. They change light bulbs and fix faucets, but they may also do more complex tasks such as maintaining heating and air conditioning units or landscaping the grounds. An organized, skilled maintenance person will also inspect the furniture and equipment in the hotel for things in need of repair. Hotel maintenance staff is also typically responsible for scheduling regular inspections of electrical equipment as well as working with vendors to replace old and install new equipment of all kinds. Small painting jobs are also very common while working on this position.

Besides of good knowledge of English and flexibility, hotel maintenance employees should possess a certain level of handyman skills. This is because they fix everything from laundry equipment, throughout ventilation and water treatment systems, to heating and air conditioning units. They are needed to deal with everything from stopped-up drains to malfunctioning television sets.
